ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Canadian Artist,

Tracy Barry

Tracy Barry’s art is a unique fusion of contemporary realism and expressive abstraction, capturing the intricate beauty of natural landscapes. Her work blends detailed realism with spontaneous brushstrokes and organic textures, offering an emotional depth that connects viewers to the raw beauty of nature.

Over time, her evolving style has come to symbolize the balance between reality and emotional interpretation, bridging the gap between the two. Tracy’s fearless exploration of intuitive expression makes her a distinct voice in the contemporary art scene.

Tracy's creative journey has been influenced by her time spent living in various parts of Canada. From the towering buildings of Edmonton to the iconic Sleeping Giant in Thunder Bay, her work often draws from the landscapes that surround her. She embraces the natural beauty of her surroundings, often depicting thunderstorms, expansive skies, and reflective moments.

Collaborative Projects & Notable Works

Tracy evolved her passions for art into a career in 2014, selling her first original series, among other original paintings, while attracting enthusiastic collectors.

In addition, Tracy has painted over 12 rain barrels since her first project with EcoSuperior in Thunder Bay. She took a two-year hiatus but is excited to continue with these commissions. Her rain barrels have become beloved works of functional art. Tracy also leads "Painting Experience" workshops, designed to blend art technique with a fun and rewarding creative experience, incorporating unique materials and tools.

Northern Alien Adventures

In 2023, Tracy collaborated with author Terry Bell to illustrate his children's book, A Northern Alien Adventure, which has been loved by readers locally and in neighbouring communities. The Northern Alien characters, originally and currently popular as wooden cut-outs, have travelled the world, spreading joy to fans everywhere. Tracy and Terry continue to share the book through readings at schools and libraries, leaving audiences eager for more. As these curious aliens continue to inspire, audiences can’t help but wonder... What might their next Northern Aliens Adventure be?

To adopt an Alien or order a book you can msg the Northern Aliens Facebook Page. Aliens are available at Slate Island Brewing & Terrace Bay Tourist Info.

Looking Ahead

As Tracy continues to grow her art career, her days are filled with commissioned projects. She’s in the process of re-branding and preparing for a new collection of artwork to exhibit in 2027. In addition to her original paintings, Tracy also offers her designs on Redbubble, where her artwork is featured on a wide range of products—pillows, notebooks, clothing, coffee cups, bags, and more.

Tracy is passionate about collaborating with other artists for future events, including the 2025 Summer Arts Retreat. She envisions unique experiences, such as a helicopter art excursion, and events that highlight diverse art forms, from culinary arts to dance, meditation, and painting to music.

What Drives Tracy’s Art

Tracy’s passion for art and events is driven by her love for creative problem-solving (solution finding) and her desire to open people's minds to different art forms. She deeply values how art ties into mental well-being, personal growth, and self-expression. What fulfills her most is seeing the joy, pride, and peace that art brings to those who engage with it—creating a space where people can feel happy and connected.

Building a Business and Platform

In college, Tracy started her own business ‘The Nest Studio’. She began building her platform and using social media to gain a larger audience. She graduated from Confederation College and received a Business-Marketing diploma in 2017.

Proudly, one week before she graduated, Tracy along with two other known, Upcoming Artists, Founded an Art Gallery in Thunder Bay Ontario, The Creative. She spent 16 short months alongside her partners before venturing to a handful other endeavours.

Evolving The Nest Studio

When the pandemic threatened to close The Nest Studio, Tracy couldn't let that happen. Drawing on years of event planning, audience building, and collaborations with local businesses and galleries, she moved to Schreiber and set up a home studio. Tracy adapted by offering online classes, collaborating with schools, and expanding her reach through Redbubble sales and commissions under her name. She has also been running the Summer Arts Retreat for four years, illustrating books, painting rain barrels, and making plans for future growth and new events. Tracy's journey reflects her unwavering dedication to sustaining and growing her creative platform, no matter the challenges.

Continuing the Mission

Tracy’s mission is to raise awareness about the value of fine art, empower creative entrepreneurs to embrace the worth of their work, and educate the public on the emotional and authentic expressions that art provides.
